Dr. Simon Vulfsons

Dr. Simon Vulfsons, who was the head of the faculty for pain medicine at the Technion, a prominent Israeli university, and who is head of pain medicine at Rambam Hospital  has been engaged in magnotherapy for a number of years, primarily for the treatment of pain. He relates, “The use of electromagnetic fields began in the Sixties, in the field of fusing broken bones. However, it has been discovered that electromagnetic fields are also effective in treating a broad range of problems, such as skin sores which do not heal, pain, joint problems, chronic joint inflammation and others.”

Dr. Vulfsons has become aware of the effectiveness of electromagnetic medicine over the course of many active years in the field. “I encountered successes in the field of pain, particularly in what were considered hopeless cases who came to me. One female patient came to me with strong pain in her knee after an injury. Although her knee was not broken, she suffered 24 hours a day with pain and went from one emergency room to another in search of relief. No one could determine the reason for her pain. Upon examining her, I did not find a break or other serious damage, only extreme sensitivity that did not respond to any medical treatment. I applied a permanent cast on the knee and treated it twice a week with a device that uses electromagnetic fields. Within three days, the pains disappeared and the patient was able to hop. After two weeks, no trace of pain remained.”

Dr. Vulfsons responds to the question of how, specifically, electromagnetic treatment relieves pain. “As of now, there is no clear answer to this question. However, there are several conjectures. Some relate to the fact that the electromagnetic field influences the innervation (stimulation of nerves) or the substances that reduce inflammation in an injured area. Another possible reason is that the electromagnetic field alleviates pain by improving blood flow and increasing the oxygen level in the blood. Researchers proved that the change in the level of acidity helps dissipate the pain and the magnetic field apparently contributes to a change in the acidity in the area surrounding the injury.”
